Michael Smith,
Founder of Firebox and Mind Candy – From a bedroom in Wales to an international business

Michael Smith co-founded gadgets e-tailer Firebox.com in 1998 in a tiny attic in Cardiff. The company successfully raised VC money during the late nineties dot.com boom but expanded too quickly and nearly became a dot.com bust. Michael and his team managed to get the company back on track and into profitability from 2001, becoming the 13th fastest growing UK company as featured in the Sunday Times Fast Track list in 2007, turning over £10m in 2006 and subsequently expanding into the USA.

Michael has since gone on to found Mind Candy, a new type of entertainment company specializing in Alternate Reality games.
